Tested

In my early 30s, I experienced some major disruptions in my life. I left an abusive marriage and took my toddler out of the country to a new assignment in England, courtesy of Uncle Sam. And then DESERT STORM happened.

At first it, was difficult to get my footing. I had to find a place on the economy that wasn’t looking for a man to guarantee the rent. I beat myself up for thinking my daughter would easily transition to a big-girl bed. Why didn’t I bring the crib? I worried about deploying; should I send my 3-year-old to the States? I wondered if I could juggle all the demands…

But we survived. In fact, we didn’t just survive, we thrived! And I learned some things about myself…

If I have to, I can do anything
I am strong
I am invincible
I am woman…” Helen Reddy, I Am Woman

Whatever I have, wherever I am, I can make it through anything in the One who makes me who I am.” ~ Philippians 4:13, MSG

Inhale Strength, Exhale Fear…
Inhale Invincibility, Exhale Fear…
Inhale Faith, Exhale Fear…

  1. Awesome Renita, you always have been a strong person and a leader as long as I have known you even in elementary school! Great that you did hang in there through those rough times! Which living it everyday is an accomplishment in it self then achieving one of the highest ranking in the arm forces is amazing…Congratulations classmate

    1. Edwin! I didn’t always appreciate the leadership experience I got in elementary school…but even that taught me about position versus relationship! I know you’ve experienced your own trails and lived to share what you’ve learned with others. Thanks for reading and commenting!

    1. Thank you Soror Petula! This week’s theme is all about embracing the struggles we experience on the way to becoming who we are meant to be. Pray you are as well as you look!

  2. Many are saved by the testimony of others. I am glad our paths met. I remember when you spoke at the Women’s fellowship, giving your testimony. You have overcome, by first trusting God. So many women in Abusive relationships don’t have the courage or the means to get out. But by the grace of God….if we can just help one person, our living is not in vain. Thank you my Shero.

    1. Thanks Mercedes! I agree that our tests are not just so we struggle but so we can share our testimony. Thank you so much for reading and commenting…pray you are well!
