Poverty Shaming

I was surprised to see a former military leader suggest the presence of robots at a fast food restaurant was the result of workers demanding an increase in the minimum wage.

There was no blame for the housing industry which has made it difficult for a person with one minimum wage job to afford a place to live or energy companies which are enjoying record setting profits while charging record-setting prices or any other entity which has contributed to a higher cost of living in this country.

Nope. All blame was directed at workers trying to keep their heads above water.

I guess I just expected a little more compassion…

The income-inequality trajectory observed in the United States is largely due to massive educational inequalities, combined with a tax system that grew less progressive…” ~ Beatrice Dupuy, Newsweek

Where Will We Live?

I sometimes wonder if the wealthy elites intent on destroying the planet, have a plan to escape to another planet or maybe like the movie, Elysium, some kind of space habitat, leaving the rest of us to deal with the consequences of their greed and neglect.

We now have the technology to destroy the planet on which we live, but have not yet developed the ability to escape it.” ~ Stephen Hawking

This “Right Now” Life

If the conservative Christians running the government believe in a rich afterlife, why are they trying to hoard all the material wealth now? AND lying about what they’re doing?

Do they believe God is pleased? Just curious…

“Looking at his disciples, Jesus said, “Do you have any idea how difficult it is for people who ‘have it all’ to enter God’s kingdom?” The disciples couldn’t believe what they were hearing, but Jesus kept on: “You can’t imagine how difficult. I’d say it’s easier for a camel to go through a needle’s eye than for the rich to get into God’s kingdom.” Mark 10: 23-25, MSG

Abundance

America is one of the wealthiest countries in the world… rich in resources, rich in ingenuity, rich in our willingness to take risks. Our richest resource is our diverse population and the innovation that comes when differences are explored versus exploited.

There is enough for all of us to have what we need, even what we want if we are willing to see the humanity in each of us and to take responsibility for using our God-given gifts to make it better for all of us.
