More Than Conquerors

In my alternate Wakandan universe, the Black Panther (T’Challa) and Eric “Killmonger” Stevens, (N’Jadaka) work through their ideological differences, reconcile as cousins, and rule together…one inviting risk, pushing the edge of the envelope…one providing the care and compassion all followers long for in their leaders…

“The world is changing. Soon there will only be the conquered and the conquerors. You are a good man, with a good heart. And it’s hard for a good man to be a king.” ~ King T’Chaka, Black Panther

Fake Christianity…

Why are we even paying attention to those who call themselves Christians but ignore what and who Jesus paid attention to? Why do we continue to give credence to those who claim Christ but don’t reflect Christ in their attitude or actions? Why do we allow the amplification of “Christian” voices that spew separation and fear?

“What kind of deal is it to get everything you want but lose yourself? What could you ever trade your soul for?” Matthew 16: 26, MSG

Consensus

When I work with teams, I often see confusion about the concept of consensus. They think consensus will get them to a course of action that everyone can support. That might work at a football game. But sometimes when a group is pursuing a vision, trying to achieve consensus dilutes the passion and diverts the energy and focus from the original idea, leaving something NO one supports.

To me, consensus seems to be the process of abandoning all beliefs, principles, values and policies. So it is something in which no one believes and to which no one objects.” ~ Margaret Thatcher

Yearning

Your yearning is nothing more, nothing less than God guiding you to your purpose. The world is waiting…

If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth.” Deuteronomy 28: 1

Prodigy

Every now and then our innate and obvious passions and talents are nurtured and developed from the beginning of our lives…we call those people prodigies. Pablo Picasso’s passion and talent for drawing were evident, explored and encouraged from an early age and expanded as a result of his art instructor father’s guidance.

How many budding Picassos are waiting for encouragement to discover their passion?

Compelled to Purpose

Our purpose is sometimes revealed in unexpected, sometimes sad, even violent ways … like when we experience something personally or something happens to someone close to us and we feel compelled to act. Candy Lightner founded Mothers Against Drunk Driving after a drunk driver, who had a history of arrests for intoxication, hit and killed her daughter.

Whose life will be saved by the protection your passion puts into place?

The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Dream Purpose

We all have a purpose…our reason for being here. Our dreams can ignite a passion for a cause that reveals our purpose. And when we don’t fulfill our purpose, things come undone or don’t get done.

Who is waiting on you to fulfill your purpose?

At first dreams seem impossible, then improbable, then inevitable.” ~ Christopher Reeve

Exposed to Passion

Sometimes we’re exposed to something for the very first time and we don’t believe it’s possible to live without this …something in our lives. Think Misty Copeland, the first African American female principal dancer with the prestigious American Ballet Theatre. Misty wasn’t introduced to ballet until the relatively late age of 13 yet was dancing en pointe three months later. What if she had never taken that first class?

Now she’s creating opportunities for young kids of color to discover the discipline of ballet.

Who needs to be exposed to your passion?

I’m 5’2″; I started when I was 13, I’m Black, but I’ve made it happen. I’m very lucky to be where I am … it’s possible.” ~ Misty Copeland

Power

Authentic power comes from the Source of all power and authority. We are powerful when we are connected to God and aligned with His plan, His purpose for our lives.

I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5 NIV

Do This One Thing to Gain Your Leadership Equilibrium

Equilibrium: a state of intellectual or emotional balance

There are a lot of productivity experts offering systems to help you organize and act on anything that comes into your workspace. The best ones focus first on helping you find your purpose. Author Brian Tracy says “Once you know your purpose you can organize all of your activities around it.” Tweet this now!

Knowing your purpose is an important first step to gaining balance in your life, because if you align yourself with something that’s not what you’re supposed to be doing….

If you continue to say yes to things that are not aligned with your vision or values…

Or if you say no when you should to something that’s not in alignment with your purpose, but believe you probably should have done what you were asked me to do…

Then even if you apply some practical productivity tools, you’re still going to be out of balance and stressed out. Tweet this now!

Everything you do should be an expression of your purpose. If an activity doesn’t fit you shouldn’t be doing it. Knowing your purpose helps you laser focus your effort and energy on the things that matter… and ignoring or deferring the things that don’t.
