Stuck and Stagnant

We don’t have to stay stuck in the sadness of our story, mired in the misery of our mistakes or attached to the anxiety of our errors. We can focus on how we overcame the obstacles of our own making, how we persevered past our lapses to pass the test, and how we made our missteps our first steps in a new direction.

We can celebrate the results, we can be who we are meant to be and we can stay in the NOW.

“What we trample and leave behind fertilizes what feeds us.” ~ Mark Nepo

OBE

A question, a plan, an issue is Overcome by Events (OBE), when things happen that answer the question, void the plan or make the issue irrelevant. An example is the question reporter Bill Simons posed to tennis G.O.A.T. Serena Williams during a post-French Open-match press conference.

After stating that Donald Trump suggested after the 2004 Wimbledon final (won by Maria Sharapova) “that you were intimidated by her supermodel good looks” he asked Williams “Have you ever been intimidated by anyone on a tennis court, and what are you thoughts about that occurrence?”

Fourteen years and 19 wins against this “rival” not to mention her record breaking 23 Grand Slam titles, most in the Open Era…this question was OBE. The premise for it was racist and ridiculous and Williams had already answered it…on the court. I guess he wasn’t paying attention.

Prelude

We could choose to see everything we’ve experienced in the past as a prelude to and preparation for the magnificent present we are experiencing now…

What’s past is prologue.” ~ William Shakespeare, The Tempest

Preclude

We see our present experiences through the blurry filter of our past experiences. Time and time again, we allow our past to pop up and block our present. But our previous experiences don’t have to preclude what we want to do in the present. We don’t have to be stuck in our story.

…affirming our existence requires affirming the past that led to it.” ~ Todd May

Precious Present

Every anxious thought we have about what might happen … every moment we spend replaying and regretting an action we took or something we didn’t say … every time we give into anger over something done to us that we perceive as negative, we stray away from the precious present.

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:34, NIV

Forgiveness is Freedom

When I forgive, I free others and myself from past behavior, mistakes and regret. I’ve found that forgiving benefits all aspects of my life… from my relationships, and my health to my ability to focus energy on what I’m here to do.

Forgiveness removes hurt and resentment and allows me to see clearly to a much brighter future.

When you forgive you don’t change the past, you change the future.” Rev. Mark Anthony Lord
