Rejuvenation

One of the things I most enjoy about this semi-retired phase of my life is the time to occasionally be leisurely in the morning. I am so grateful for the time to sit in my favorite meditation spot, feet elevated, knees on ice, coffee and water at the ready for as long as I need to pray, to think, to meditate, to read, to write or to just be still.

Just as sleep rests and rejuvenates my body, my morning routine restores and renews my soul.

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest.” Mathew 11: 28, MSG

Just Like New…

Our cells are always renewing. If they suddenly stopped replicating, we might last a few days, but eventually we would die. In the same way, if we stop growing spiritually, mentally, and emotionally, we might as well BE dead.

As we get older our cells start to replicate more slowly and we start to age. However we can still maintain our physical health by engaging our muscles and being careful about what we ingest. And we can continue to develop our spiritual muscles through prayer, meditation and study, exercise our emotional muscles by being present in our relationships and flex our mental muscles through exposure to new information.

Happy New Year!

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”  Romans 12: 2 ESV

Oxygen Mask

The safety briefing prior to a flight always includes the reminder to put YOUR mask on before helping others in an emergency. And while we wouldn’t question the wisdom of that directive, in our lives we are constantly flying from one family crisis to another, flailing and sometime failing because we are operating without oxygen. We are trying to help others when we can’t breathe…

Who will give me wings,” I ask—“wings like a dove?” Get me out of here on dove wings; I want some peace and quiet.” Psalm 55: 6-7, MSG
