Rest

There are vacations for sight seeing, vacations for bonding with friends and/or family and vacations for sitting in the sun, feet up, phone off, favorite beverage and reading materials close by. The trick is knowing what is needed when and doing just that.

Restoration

One of the things I most enjoy about this semi-retired phase of my life is the time to occasionally be leisurely in the morning. I am so grateful for the time to sit in my favorite devotion space, feet elevated, knees on ice, coffee and water at the ready for as long as I need to pray, to think, to meditate, to read, to write or to just be still.

Just as sleep rests and rejuvenates my body, my morning routine restores and replenishes my soul.

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest.” Mathew 11: 28, MSG

Holistically Healthy

I’ve been thinking a lot about aging in this birthday week. And I believe that being intentional about learning new things, applying learned lessons to my life, staying holistically healthy so I can share what I’ve learned, and thanking God for it all, has kept me young at heart, full of laughter and feeling blessed.

So I will continue doing those things. Happy Birthday to me!

My Best Me

At some point along my fitness journey, I discovered my physical health was impacted by and impacted my mental, emotional and spiritual health. So my focus became challenging myself to be the best me I could be…the least stressed, most aware, calm, fearless, peaceful, holistically healthy version of myself so I could have the stamina to do what I’m supposed to be doing.

Model Behavior

I’m a fitness enthusiast and a firm believer that our magnificently complex bodies can stay healthier if we stay active and monitor what we ingest.

But that’s not just theory for me…I’ve got role models for graceful aging in my 80+plus-year-old parents!

My father is still an enthusiastic golfer, talking smack and taking names of golfers half his age!

My mother managed to stave off diabetes by upping her activity and lowering her caloric intake.

And their great physical health positively impacts them mentally, spiritually and emotionally.

At its deepest level, your body is ageless, your mind timeless.” ~ Deepak Chopra
