Our move to Scott AFB in southern Illinois was the sixth move for my sixth grader and probably the most stressful. In addition to the general meanness of girls on the cusp of junior high, my daughter experienced the isolation of being the new kid, and not just any new kid, but the child of a military member always facing the possibility of being reassigned to a new location.
As one mother explained, it was difficult for these elementary school kids, who had known each other since first grade, to open their hearts to someone who might not be around in a couple of years.
They were too young to know that to love is to risk loss.
“You have to be willing to lose in order to win. In love. In Life. In everything you’ll ever do.” ~ Evan Sanders, The Better Man Project
