Mission Accomplished

There can be unintended consequences to any action. But a well thought out strategy that takes into account the possible reactions to every action taken to achieve a clear mission, is likely to succeed.

And then there is action for the sake of doing something…

“For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.” ~ Sir Isaac Newton

Internal Compass

Everyday we receive guidance about what we’re supposed to be doing.
If we’re still enough to pay attention, we can hear it.
If we’re paying attention, we can recognize what it is.
If we recognize it, we can choose to be obedient.
If we’re obedient, we will act on the guidance we’re given.
And our actions can impact the world…or at least OUR world.

“Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; He’s the one who will keep you on track.” Proverbs 3: 5-6 MSG

Called to Chaos

One of my favorite books about Vietnam is “Dereliction of Duty: Lyndon Johnson, Robert McNamara, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the Lies That Led to Vietnam.” As you might surmise from the title, the book is a scathing indictment of the leaders who prosecuted the Vietnam War. The author was particularly hard on the president who he described as having a tendency to lie, an obsession with loyalty and leaks, and so narrowly focused on his political fortunes that he ignored what was best for the nation.

The author is H.R. McMaster…that’s right, a former national security adviser to the 45th American president.

And every time he was on TV defending the indefensible, I wondered…why?

There are opportunities you should never take advantage of because they’re going to pull you away from what God has called you to. There are places you should not go just because they’re bigger and better. You’re going to get there and realize you never should have gone because they’re bigger and messier, not better.” ~ Andy Stanley

Focus on YOUR Dream

Fulfilling your dream might mean you have to deny what other people might be dreaming for you in order to discover and focus on what you are dreaming for yourself.

Fulfilling your dream might mean you have to gain some knowledge or experience to develop your talent.

Fulfilling your dream might mean you have to be open to other voices yet discerning of their impact.

And any doubts you have about whether you can do what you’re dreaming are coming from a place of fear.

And the special gift of ministry you received when I laid hands on you and prayed—keep that ablaze! God doesn’t want us to be shy with his gifts, but bold and loving and sensible.” 2 Timothy 1:6-7

Discover Purpose

Not everyone discovers their purpose early or gets sustained support if they do. That doesn’t mean we can’t act on our desires and use our talents to fulfill our purpose … as soon as we know what it is.

In fact, it doesn’t matter how or even when we get to our purpose. It only matters that when the discovery is made, we strive to live in and on purpose.

“The purpose of life is a life of purpose.” ~ Robert Bryne

Compelled to Purpose

Our purpose is sometimes revealed in unexpected, sometimes sad, even violent ways … like when we experience something personally or something happens to someone close to us and we feel compelled to act.

Candy Lightner founded Mothers Against Drunk Driving after a drunk driver with a history of arrests for intoxication, hit and killed her daughter.

Whose life will be saved by the protection you put into place while serving your purpose?

The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
